Sewing Room Update (Help!!)

Today was our final “wrap up” day at the house. Renovations are D-O-N-E for a while until we do our master bathroom. One of the last things they have been working on is our front door and they finished today. I would say it’s quite an improvement!

This was the cheaper reno alternative to them completely removing the front door to refinish it. Basically they cleaned it and scrubbed it, then re-stained it with a type of Gel Stain. Today they coated it with polyurethane. It looks a ton better! Now that they are done and Jeff has pressure washed the front porch and front walkway, add to our list planters for the front porch. The “list” is 3 miles long and never ends….. You all know what I mean! It. never. ends.

And when you walk in our new front door and take an immediate right, you find our lovely office/sewing room. Not much has changed and I.am.frustrated. I have not been able to commit to hanging anything yet (which also goes for the rest of the house). Love my Expedit cubby and need more baskets. I need to hang my thread, my clock, my stabilizer rack, anything and everything else… We have hung my bulletin board and the TV. That’s it.

Still have fabric in these plastic bins, which is why I need more of the PJAS baskets for the cubby. My 5000M spool thread rack is still on the floor.

Thread stands…. not where they should be! The baskets do house my fabrics and they are organized still in to categories: colors w/ white polka dots (big dots), multi colored dots, pin dots, fat ginghams, regular ginghams, microchecks, boy fabrics, girl fabrics, etc etc etc. I know which basket has which fabric in it and I can also see through the triangle handle.

It’s hard to tell time when your clock is hiding in a basket. My stabilizer rack/shelf thingy is still resting on my tool chest.

Still got the old dining room chairs with red cushions. Jeff has nothing hung over his desk. His golf ball collection sits on the floor.

HELP!!!! What do I need to do?? When I’m faced with so many little projects, I tend to freeze up and avoid doing anything! I painted this room white so it would be a clean slate. I would use thread and fabric and all that fun sewing stuff to color the room, or that’s what I told myself. I’ve had my eye on these fabrics (from Joann), but what would I do with them?

Help!!!! Any suggestions?? The hours spent on Pinterest have not helped me. I just keep pinning things and then realize how un-crafty I am. Do I need to call HGTV? TLC? Is Trading Spaces still a show? help…..

We survived!

I can ALMOST say that our renovation project is DONE!! We have ONE MORE DAY, I think, this coming week. They have not done the front door, painted the little hallway to the master bedroom or hung our under-cabinet lighting. Minor details. I have been battling with my sinuses for 3 weeks. Today I took an Allegra-D. I had no idea a decongestant could throw me in to “nesting” mode (without being pregnant). You’ll see what I mean shortly. Anyway, here is our new pantry! The old pantry had lots of random wire shelves, so we took that all out, painted it and had our contractor do these nice wood painted shelves. LOVE THEM! I went to Target Friday to scout out some baskets because that’s what I’ve seen on Pinterest and it looks super organized. Haven’t bought any yet. There is also a blank wall on the right side so I am trying to figure out what to put there to make it both organized and cute! It doesn’t take much to excite me.

Do you remember this post from SEPTEMBER 27th? Today I FINALLY tackled this room. Jeff & I have been chipping away at it for a couple of weeks, and today (thank you Mr. Allegra-D), I got it all cleaned out, dusted, mopped and organized. The contents of this room (which is what we call our “mystery room” adjacent to our eating area in the kitchen) are temporary. This is my old dining room table which I used to sew on, which will be used probably by Browder to do homework for the time being. The boxes underneath the table are picture frames and chotchkies that we have no where to put right now, but it is all out of the way and organized until we get ready to hang stuff! I have hung 1 clock and a key rack in the whole house I think. Oh, and a bulletin board.

“Mystery” storage room. We will eventually decide if we want shelves in here, cabinetry, a desk…. exciting stuff, huh?

And… the moment we have all been waiting for…. the finished KITCHEN!

I’m in the market for a few counter stools, which I cannnnooootttt decide on. The island pendant lights were hung last week and they are from good ole Pottery Barn.

We painted our ceilings in the kitchen too and while I was unsure about doing it, it turned out great, especially the huge dome over the table! We painted them the same color as the walls.

Our next project is our den! We had it all painted (ceilings too), but the furniture in there was mine before I met Jeff. It’s great furniture but we’re thinking we need to update since we have a new kitchen. Maybe by Christmas.

The dining room has been painted and the funky arches have been taken out. We have no dining room furniture in there so there’s not much to see. I have to give a shout out to Amie of Linen and Boxwoods! She is my sweet friend who helped me along the way with all the decisions regarding paint, cabinet colors, lighting, etc. She made several trips with me to the tile store, the lighting store and put up with my texts of pictures of paint swatches painted all over the walls. THANKS AMIE!! She is getting ready for her own renovation with our same contractor, so I can’t wait to see it all unfold!

Our next major renovation will be our bathroom, but we’re taking a break until after the new year so you can have a few months of actual applique posts rather than renovation updates. I am STILLLLLL…. working on my sewing room too. I can’t quite figure out what to do and won’t commit to hanging anything on the walls (other than my bulletin board). Maybe soon I will get it together. Maybe when I have another Allegra day. Seriously – I cleaned out our garage, put a bunch of stuff in the attic, hung the boys winter clothes up and put up some of their summer stuff. Ditto on my closet – I got out all of my winter clothes and put up some of the summer stuff and started a Goodwill bag. I’ve accomplished more today than I have in 2 months.

War Eagle!! Time to crash…

Kitchen Update

Dare I say… the kitchen is DONE! Well, sort of… We’re still missing a few drawer pulls, (3) pendant lights over the island and we have quite a job in front of us to get rid of ALL THE DUST as well as reloading the cabinets. Most of our dishes need to be washed before we put stuff back. Oh, we are also re-doing our pantry too (which is now empty). And…we are also lacking the countertops in our laundry room and in the guest bath (which includes the sink). I won’t dwell on the minor details…. Here is the backsplash which was grouted today. It’s still in need of a good cleaning (dust), but you get the idea!

Here is what we like to call “the mystery room”. This is a room adjacent to our eating area which will some day become a large pantry (storage), homework room, gift wrap room, etc. We have a few ideas for it’s use. It is stacked and packed with everything from the kitchen to decor items we never unpacked when we moved in. It is also coated with a fine layer of dust since this door was left open on occasion during the tiling process (sigh…).

Our other MAJOR project is our garage. It is scary! Not only is everything covered in dust and sawdust, there are all kinds of kitchen cabinet parts, old drawers, extra trim, tile, etc. all over the place. Below is the mystery room again. We need to just tackle a little bit at a time. Eventually it’ll all get to where it needs to be.

We LOVE our cubbies! We have had a “cubby lesson” or two so as to train these 3 to put their shoes and junk away properly when we get home. For the most part I think they just like to climb in them.

The TO DO list is a miiillllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeee long. I can’t complain, as I spent Thurs night ~ Sunday down at the beach with my bunko group. Friday afternoon I sat on the couch ALL AFTERNOON. I never get to sit on the couch at home, so it was a treat to just sit and do absolutely nothing.

Tomorrow night is Divine Consign here in Montgomery, which is an overstock sale that I work at every season. This time I did 15 appliqued tees and 2 appliqued aprons for the sale. I’ll post pics tomorrow! I’ll be there from 6-9 tomorrow night for the Grandmother’s Preview Sale ~ bring “a” grandmother and shop early! I just saw some preview pics and it looks like cute stuff (smocked, etc).
